Gosh, it took me a while but finally, here it is! Sorry for the delay, Qawiem.
What?! Where is the IT nerd you ask? No worries, chill chill, he hasn’t gone anywhere. I’m writing this review as he couldn’t attend the ADND due to some unforeseen circumstances. So, here it is!
Review – Annual Dinner and Dance (ADND) 2007
For those of you who do not know, the Annual Dinner and Dance (ADND) is an event jointly held by the Malaysian Students’ Societies of the four main universities in Sydney, namely MSA (Macquarie University), MSO (UNSW), SUAMS (University of Sydney) and MASA (UTS). This year’s ADND was held on the 5th of October 2007 at the Menzies Hotel on Carrington Street. Themed “Kayangan”, ADND set out to create a “heaven on earth” that night. How did it go? Read on to find out...
On that particular Friday night, everyone who attended the function dressed to the nines - guys in suits, girls in evening dresses. Hence, this allowed for a lot of photo-taking moments before and after the event (yes lah, how often do you get everyone in the room dressed so nicely eh? =D) Guests even had souvenir pictures taken using a Polaroid camera (so old school!).
The event officially started at about 8pm. Stepping into the function room, we were greeted with tables lined with white tablecloths, with flickering candles and flowers and as centerpieces, all in line to create a paradise-like atmosphere in the room. In all honesty, food that night wasn’t really great (the best was dessert I would say), but I guess it was the company that mattered.
From the entertainment side, there were band performances and a number of dances. And of course, there were lucky draws. Among prizes included were restaurant and Famous Amos vouchers, headsets, and even 3-month supplies of 100Plus. The biggest winners from MSA that night had to be our Sports Directors. Current Sports Director, Zyerila, went home with a spanking new mobile phone, while Sports Director 06/07, Jonathan, landed himself return tickets to Malaysia. Lucky fellas, eh? Our current “All Natural” President Galven Chia got his share of the limelight as well when he was nominated for some kinda ‘award’. (Details shall not be reveal here, though – I hope don’t get killed for this =P)
The night ended with the announcement of the new committees for the respective clubs from each university. From MSA, Tun Shim, President 06/07, introduced the new committee and hence everyone in the room had a glimpse of who the MSA committee newbies were.
Apart from a few technical problems with the audio-visual equipment and difficulties in figuring out which fork to use for which course (or perhaps it’s just me, haha), all in all, ADND 2007 was a fun outing and a great way to ‘pass on the torch’ in style.
Here’s where us newbies would like to take our hats off the MSA Committee 06/07 for doing a great job. We have big shoes to fill, but we’ll try our best.
So, to all members out there, do watch out for what MSA has in store for the remains of 2007 and the coming new semester!
Signing off,
