Hope you guys are enjoying your time there ya? n bring something back for me! haha..no seriously, ENJOY your time!!..n bring something back for me ;P
Things in sydney are below par after Cohort 2 TESLians left us leaving me, and few others dying of boredom..Most of us are working and we do spend time together having dinner, shisha-ing courtesy of our man Rickman and Mr President :P, occasional futsal, playing Diren's playstation, pool session with Azan, Rickman and Ben and more shisha! Oh life is so good here man <--read this in african accent..As for the girls, I guess all they do is sleeping working..But according to Shafiqah, that's not all! They seem to enjoy cooking and shaping up for summer, she said (oh yeah?;p)..Rumour has it that they went to the gym only to buy Snickers at the vending machine..but I did bump into Lisa and Amnah when they was on their way to the gym the other day tho...with coins in their hands..
At the time I'm writing this post, Sunny is playing FIFA Manager 08 which Seng Chee "bought" him, Diren is cleaning his toilet, Reez is in his room and Ain busy with her family..
We DO enjoy our time here in Sydney you see..really..no kidding, i tell you..
Evidence of fun:
Silly guy, Kay, Diren and Reez having dinner at Cafe Kasturi (one of our sponsors so holla for discount!)..we ordered money bags and satay as entrees, red curry duck, sambal udang and chap chai which are all SUPERB!!1!one...for those who haven't tried the food there please try and it's Halal..check their website from the link in our website! ;P

Review - Gear-up and Fill-up BBQ II!
‘Twas a gloomy day. Dark clouds hovered over MQ Uni’s grounds, threatening to rain. Perhaps the grey skies were reflecting the somber mood of students bound to go through the agony of exams in the coming week.
Yes, you’ve guessed it right. It was MSA’s Gear-Up and Fill-Up BBQ II, held on this week, Monday 5th October 2007. It started at 2 pm, and the crowd kept streaming in till past 3 pm since everyone finished classes at different times. The event was an Aussie-style sausage sizzle, which meant bread slapped on with a couple of sausages and some onions, topped off with BBQ sauce and ketchup. Oh, and some potato chips as finger food too.
Also, special thanks goes out to guests who came from other unis, namely Amanda from MSO (UNSW) and Jenny and Pek Lynn from MASA (UTS). Thank you so much for making the trip to Macquarie Uni!
Signing off,
Selina Tay

However, at SAM Bar, the atmosphere was less depressing. =) The fragrant smell of sausages and onions on the BBQ pit filled the air, and a bunch of people were talking and laughing, just chillin’ after class before heading back to continue studying (or mugging, in my case, that is =P).
The turnout was not bad, not too big but not too small either, so there was sufficient food for everyone! Yay! Thus, 150 sausages, few loaves of bread and packets of chips later, everyone went back with full stomachs, recharged and ready to take on their pile of books again.
Thanks to those who turned up for the BBQ. Hope you guys and girls had fun and managed to unwind (at least) a little! =) Too much stress buildup is not good for the soul, yo!Also, special thanks goes out to guests who came from other unis, namely Amanda from MSO (UNSW) and Jenny and Pek Lynn from MASA (UTS). Thank you so much for making the trip to Macquarie Uni!
So I guess that wraps up MSA’s activities for the year 2007. Hope you all had an amazing year! All the best in your coming exams! And don’t forget to keep an eye out for activities MSA has planned for 2008. See ya!

Review - Annual Dinner and Dance (ADND) 2007
Gosh, it took me a while but finally, here it is! Sorry for the delay, Qawiem.
What?! Where is the IT nerd you ask? No worries, chill chill, he hasn’t gone anywhere. I’m writing this review as he couldn’t attend the ADND due to some unforeseen circumstances. So, here it is!
Review – Annual Dinner and Dance (ADND) 2007
For those of you who do not know, the Annual Dinner and Dance (ADND) is an event jointly held by the Malaysian Students’ Societies of the four main universities in Sydney, namely MSA (Macquarie University), MSO (UNSW), SUAMS (University of Sydney) and MASA (UTS). This year’s ADND was held on the 5th of October 2007 at the Menzies Hotel on Carrington Street. Themed “Kayangan”, ADND set out to create a “heaven on earth” that night. How did it go? Read on to find out...
On that particular Friday night, everyone who attended the function dressed to the nines - guys in suits, girls in evening dresses. Hence, this allowed for a lot of photo-taking moments before and after the event (yes lah, how often do you get everyone in the room dressed so nicely eh? =D) Guests even had souvenir pictures taken using a Polaroid camera (so old school!).
The event officially started at about 8pm. Stepping into the function room, we were greeted with tables lined with white tablecloths, with flickering candles and flowers and as centerpieces, all in line to create a paradise-like atmosphere in the room. In all honesty, food that night wasn’t really great (the best was dessert I would say), but I guess it was the company that mattered.
From the entertainment side, there were band performances and a number of dances. And of course, there were lucky draws. Among prizes included were restaurant and Famous Amos vouchers, headsets, and even 3-month supplies of 100Plus. The biggest winners from MSA that night had to be our Sports Directors. Current Sports Director, Zyerila, went home with a spanking new mobile phone, while Sports Director 06/07, Jonathan, landed himself return tickets to Malaysia. Lucky fellas, eh? Our current “All Natural” President Galven Chia got his share of the limelight as well when he was nominated for some kinda ‘award’. (Details shall not be reveal here, though – I hope don’t get killed for this =P)
The night ended with the announcement of the new committees for the respective clubs from each university. From MSA, Tun Shim, President 06/07, introduced the new committee and hence everyone in the room had a glimpse of who the MSA committee newbies were.
Apart from a few technical problems with the audio-visual equipment and difficulties in figuring out which fork to use for which course (or perhaps it’s just me, haha), all in all, ADND 2007 was a fun outing and a great way to ‘pass on the torch’ in style.
Here’s where us newbies would like to take our hats off the MSA Committee 06/07 for doing a great job. We have big shoes to fill, but we’ll try our best.
So, to all members out there, do watch out for what MSA has in store for the remains of 2007 and the coming new semester!

Before you start to lock yourself in your room, wearing ugly betty's glasses and being nerdy, consider spending your next monday afternoon without spending any money with us at SAM Bar from 2 to 4pm, chatting while eating sausagessssss(this explains the no. of sausages available) and of course, have a fun day before exams!
Fuhhh, I managed to put everything in a sentence!;P

GST, GDP, DST...ehh DST??
Holaa!!;D
I'm sure most of you have heard the terms GST and GDP (especially during this crunch time;P). So I would like to say something about it and its effect to our economy. The term GST refers to the Goods and Services Tax while GDP is the Gross Domestic Production...Hold up!!...Are you serious?? Put the textbooks aside for a while, you're going to get a HD don't worry!;P..Now, take note what I'm trying to say next!
For the 'oldies' you're probably familiar with the system by now but for US(haha!) newbies, the next few lines might give you some useful information.
DST which refers to Daylight Saving Time is the convention of advancing clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less (Wikipedia).
For us in NSW, our DST will STARTS on the 28 October 2007 which is this Sunday. So remember to adjust your clock at 2.00am by moving it forward by one hour.
What's the point of this, you say?
After browsing through the net, me myself still confuse on the benefits of DST. I used to think that they're doing it to conserve energy but the evidence for this is rather weak.
BUT!..haha...the best part about DST is that all of us can go back home earlier by one hour!! yayyy!!haha;P
So what do you guys think? Do drop us a comment!;D

Review - Raya Di Kampung Macquarie!

So here it goes...
MSA had organised an event to celebrate Hari Raya on the 20th October 2007. It was a nice sunny (no, not you Sunny;P) day and everyone came with their summer attires and shades. Like all the other events organised, heaps of food were served to our guests such as nasi himpit, kuah kacang, roti jala, nasi beriyani, kuih tiram and many more! Wait, can you guys imagine the event without even a spoon of food?? Everyone will be like...
Ok ok, what I'm trying to say is that food play a HUGE part in every event especially for us Malaysians;P and kudos to everyone who have helped out in the kitchen!!..i wanted to put up their picture having fun cooking and dancing *cough*quanyie*cough* here but i guess i'll have to pass....to avoid unnecessary killing...haha!;P
Back to the review, the event had a good turnout which of course mainly from the hyper Macquarians but there are also cool people from other clubs too! There were Junda and his crews from MASA, Aisyah and her crews from MSO, SUAMS awesome committee and 'oldies' like Dato' Edward, Tan Sri Ve Leong and Tun Shim as they put it;P (oh boy, im so gonna get fired!). To all of you who came, be it mentioned or not, our stylo hats off, MSA committee 2007/2008, to you for making our first event a successful one!!Thank you!!!;D
Oh ya, our Mr. and Mrs. Kampung winners are Fadzlee and Fatin! (double F seyhh;P)
Here are some of the pictures of the event. If this is not enough for you, do visit Nik's flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikfarhan/
(if any of you have pictures to share, do let me know or you can just put your url in the comment section. thankyou!;))
and to top it all, MSA committee 2007/2008, brings you an exclusive video from the event!!

Deepavali Night will be organized by the new SUAMS 2007/08 committee to kick-start our tenure (of course, with the help of the oldies for this event!), so bring all your committee and friends and join us on the night to show your support!
Date: 19 October 2007 (Week 12, Friday)
Time: 6.30pm – 10.00pm
Venue: Courtyard behind Manning
Cost: $5/person
All food served that night will be HALAL and will include a mix of Indian-Mamak Malaysian-style food.
Get to know the new fresh-faced and fun committee that will be running SUAMS next year! Hope to see you there!

Review - Rumah Terbuka Dewan Malaysia!
Hola guyss!!
How's your raya so far?? How many open houses have you been to? Did they gave you any duit raya?? (if yes, please email me the address ya?;P)
As you all know yesterday our Malaysian Hall had organized an open house to celebrate one of those BIG days for us malaysian which is Hari Raya. Since your new cute MSA committee(haha!) strive to make your experience more comfortable and enjoyable, we have decided to charter a "private" bus just for MSA!
Our cool members started to show up at the meeting point at around 10.45 a.m with all dressed to the nines (seriously!;)). Mr. President, Galven, gave an introduction speech once everyone settled on the bus and after 30 mins of relishable chats among ourselves, we finally arrived at our destination.
Malaysian Hall as the name suggested, was packed with malaysians from other universities and not to forget families who are residing in NSW. Macquarians, being ourselves, went straight to the stalls to get something to eat;). There were heaps of foods served such as roti canai, nasi tomato, laksa johor, rojak, cendul and many more as if they were screaming "eat me, eat me!" ;).
Not wanting to be left out, the members also took the opportunity to mingle around with everyone from different universities and get to know each other. I'm sure everyone of us left the event with at least ONE new friend, right? After all, that is what the event is all about ;).
Finally, we hope you guys had a wonderful raya and hopefully with us organizing such trip had made it more pleasant for you.
People say a picture speaks a thousand words. So here are few pictures to cover few thousands words! ;)..Please click on the photo for its VERY large version, no kidding;P.

Rumah Terbuka Dewan Malaysia!
"Now, as we all know, Hari Raya is just around the corner, and the Malaysian Student Department has invited all of us to their Open House. Attached is the official invitation but here are the details anyways:
Venue: Malaysian Hall, 2A Alison Road, Randwick
Day: Saturday, 13 October 2007
Time: 12.00 noon till 4.00pm
Cost: Free
Well, as Macquarie students, travelling to Malaysian Hall in Randwick is quite a far distance away. Therefore, the MSA committee has arranged a private bus to bring us from Macquarie University Village (MUV) to Malaysian Hall and back.
So how much will all this cost?
$10 per person, yeap you heard me right. To travel by public buses, it will cost you at least $15, and about 4 hours (travel time and waiting time) to get there and back.Insane!!!
So for just $10, you'll get a return trip to Malaysian Hall, makan all you want, mingle with all the Malaysians, and basically experience the entire Raya scene in Sydney . Its a deal not to be missed!! Plus you won't have to feel shy about getting all dressed up in your "baju raya", cause we're all gonna be in a private bus!!
So guys, if you're interested, please reply me ASAP (hopefully by thursday please) as seats on the bus is limited to only 48 passengers. First come first serve basis applies. I will inform you on further details about where and when to board the bus as I receive your reply. So yeah, hope to see you guys soon. Its gonna be an awesome Raya!!
Yours sincerely,
Galven Chia
President
MSA 07/08
-Quoted from Galven's email.
Here's some updates on that:
Meeting point: Bus stop near MUV's admin office and Waterloo Park
Time leaving MUV: 11.00 am
Time leaving Hall: ~3.45 pm
So guys please be at the specified place on time ok?(Msian time wont be tolerated;P)
Also don't forget to bring AUD10 for the bus ride and MAKE SURE you dress to impress!(after all, people will definitely look at us when we unboard the bus looking macho and pretty:P)
If you have any problem, you can either contact Mr. President, Galven at galvenchia.msa@gmail.com or leave a comment in this post.
Or if you just have anything to say about this event, feel free to leave a comment too! Remember, a simple "I'll be there" can change one's mind to go;).

Recap of Semester 2 so far..
Welcome BBQ Sem 2:
The BBQ had a good turnout with more than 50 people. It was held at Macquarie University Village Green. We had heaps of sausages, fun and laughter. Some even had a kick at the soccer ball. Overall, it was a success! Hope to see all of you guys again.
Mr.G said "this is a sausage fest!"
Pics of the BBQ are available at the Main site.
Rock Climbing:
Rock Climbing all in all, was a fun event. Not as successful as the Welcome BBQ in terms of crowd turnout but everyone still manage to have a great time. Let's hope more people will turn up for future rock climbing events. :D
NOIR Dance Party:
Docks is one of the better clubbing venues i've been so far, and i'm sure many of you would agree with me. The place started filling up since 10pm and had a total capacity of 700+ people at the end of the night. The party was awesome and rocked.
Although some had too many a drink, there was this guy who was singing "negaraku" outside the club haha.
So that was the recap on Semester 2 so far.
If anyone has pictures that he/she would like to be put up on the website, please email it to me at danielteng.msa@gmail.com

If you are interested to play in any game, but haven't join the team, contact MSA's Sport Director (Jonathan Leung) for more information. As for Dance Party, the event will be held on that very Sunday, 8th April 2007. The theme for the night is LUSH, and it's gonna be held at one of Sydney's famous pub, ROOF BAR, at Castlereagh Street. This is an opportunity for you to escape from the uni works and have fun. What's better than spending a night out with your buddies on Easter Sunday, and sleep the whole day on Easter Monday? Tix are on sale for $15 from now. You can get it from MSA Committee members. Get it A.S.A.P. before its sold out. You can still get the tix at the door, but with extra $5...i.e. $20. Why should you waste $5 if you can save it and use it to buy drinks that night? Hurry up..get the tix now!

~PhotoHunt~
G'day mates!
Anyway, the next activity lined-up for MSA members is the Photo-Hunt. The concept is the same as Treasure Hunt, but instead of finding something, what you need to do taking pictures. You will be given a campus map, questions that u need to solve and the answers will bring you to the place and you need to take picture of you and your friends there. It is that easy! The first three groups which come first will win hampers from MSA. It's gonna be fun!!
Wassup? How was your uni? Can't believe it..we are now in second week of uni! Things are catching up pretty fast. And last Monday was amazing! Sataylicious was a successful, despite some unforseen legislations and technical problems. Thanks for those who turned-up and for those missed it, we are sorry for the problems occured.

Sataylicious is back!!
Hey mates!
Wassup? How's the O-Week been? I'm pretty sure everybody had great time strolling around the Central Courtyard this week and signing up for the clubs you are interested in (and collecting the free goodies). For those MSA new members, welcome and thanks for joining us. There are heaps of activities have been planned for this year, and for sure, heaps of fun awaiting us!
And the first activity for this semester is the Welcoming BBQ, or as i put it, Sataylicious. We gonna have heaps of satay that day, so make sure you don't miss it. Other than that, we are also gonna have heaps of BBQ chicken, popiah a.k.a. spring rolls and roti jala. With these will come their special sauces. Thanks to our two Iron Chefs- Norzie (who is also the Social Director I) and Khairunisa, our most active member (we should award her The Most Active Member...activate yourself...yeah!!)
For those who are not familiar with Malaysian food, satay consists of chunks or slices of meat on bamboo or coconut leaf spine skewers, which are grilled over a wood or charcoal fire. Turmeric is often used to marinate satay and gives it a characteristic yellow color. It is served with a spicy peanut sauce dip, or peanut gravy, slivers of onions and cucumbers, and ketupat. (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satay).
It's gonna be a whole lot new experience for you that you should not miss this out. Well, it's free food, who wanna miss it? It's free for members, and if you have friends who are not members but interested to join the BBQ, they still can come, but have to pay Au$5. And if they are having great time there, they can join MSA!
So don't forget to mark it down in your diary- Monday, 5 March 2007 at SAMBar during lunch hour till 3pm. Write it in red and also put it in your PDA and phone's reminder. It's gonna be huge...FREE food, deadly delicious food...it's SATAYLICIOUS!

MSA...we have a lot to offer
G'day mates!!
Malaysian Students Association at Macquarie University is back this semester with a lot more to offer to all its members! To start with, with every registration will entitled you free BBQ next Monday. As it's been mentioned in the previous posting, we'll have heaps of food for you guys- including satay. Oh yeah...MSA is popular for its super delicious satay. We call it 'sataylicious'. So don't forget to drop by at MSA stall during O-Week to register!
Every member will be given a MSA card (as displayed). This unique card functioning as discount card for a number of shops at Macquarie Centre. For start, Macquarie Chicken Shop (located at Level 3, near Franklin's) offers $1 off of marinated chicken. Thats groovy eh?? What's more- its HALAL. Don't believe me? Ask them for the certs they have that showing they sell halal chicken. Now, that's what we call as 'moslem by choice, not being a moslem according to the situations'.
Further, the card also applicable for discount at Tandoori Connection at the foodcourt. Every purchase of main meal entitled you a free naan. Imagine eating chicken butter with lamb curry and a free naan. What more could you ask?
Have you ever craving for Nasi Ayam or Mee Goreng Mamak? Guess what? There's a place you can get it, right here in North Ryde! Head over to F&L Gourmet at Level 3 (near Woolworths) Macquarie Centre and you can satisfy your appetite for Malaysian cuisine. As a MSA member, you are entitled for discounted drinks. It'd feel like at home with Mee Goreng Mamak 'extra pedas' and a discounted Nestea Iced Lemon Tea. Isn't that heaven?
There'll be more discounts you can get through MSA. At the moment, we are trying to confirm a few more shops that'll give more offers to MSA members. Guys, u gotta watch this space because there'll be more. Just wait...
